How to Choose your screen? (Ⅰ) Different Working Principles

In this era of rapid technological development, electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and TVs have become an indispensable part of our lives. As an important part for human-computer interaction, screen technology is also constantly evolving.

 

Currently, LCD and OLED screens dominate the market, each with its own strengths. So, what exactly are the differences between them? Let’s take a look.

 

Different Working Principles

 

LCD screens: Liquid Crystal Displays, operate like a journey of light transmission.

 

There is a backlight layer behind the screen, acting like a constant "little sun" that emits uniform white light. For this white light to display colorful images, it must pass through a color filter and a liquid crystal layer.

 

The liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer function like adjustable tiny valves, changing their orientation under the control of an electric current to regulate the light transmittance of each pixel.

 

 

For example, when displaying blue, the liquid crystal molecules in the corresponding pixel adjust to a specific angle, allowing only blue light to pass through the color filter, ultimately presenting a blue image. LCD technology is relatively mature and widely used in various electronic devices.

 

OLED screens, on the other hand, are entirely different. They use Organic Light-Emitting Diode technology, where each pixel is an independent "miniature light source."

 

When electric current passes through these organic materials, they emit light directly, without the need for a backlight layer.

 

Moreover, each pixel can independently control its brightness and color, like countless tiny lights that can be freely turned on and off or adjusted in brightness.

 

When displaying black, the corresponding pixels simply turn off, emitting no light at all, which gives OLED its unique display advantages.
